Signs of Heat Exhaustion & Heat Stroke
- Loud, heavy or laboured breathing
- Excessive panting or drooling
- Red or pale gums
- Weakness, collapse, vomiting or diarrhoea
- Anxiety, restlessness or panic
- Reduced responsiveness
What To Do If You’re Worried
- Move your dog to a cool, shaded or air-conditioned area
- Offer small amounts of cool water
- Avoid ice baths or rapid cooling
- Contact your vet immediately

What Happens at the Vet
- Immediate assessment and stabilisation
- Controlled cooling
- Oxygen support if breathing is compromised
- IV fluids and monitoring
- Blood tests if required
- Hospitalisation in severe cases
In serious cases, overheating can lead to collapse and
cardiac or respiratory arrest, meaning some pets may require
urgent resuscitation, including CPR.
